School Contact Information

The American International School Dhaka (AISD) is an independent, coeducational day school, which offers an educational program from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The school was founded in 1972. The school year comprises two semesters extending from August 16 to December 15 and from January 8 to June 8.

Organization: The school is governed by a nine-member school board elected for two-year terms. The board is comprised of parents or legal guardians of students enrolled in the school. The U.S. Ambassador appoints a nonvoting representative to the board. The school is not incorporated in the United States.

Curriculum: AISD provides a program based on American educational principles for an international community. The elementary school implements the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP), which is an international curriculum framework that creates a relevant, engaging, challenging, and significant educational framework for all children. The secondary school consists of grades 6-12 and aims to provide an age-appropriate, child-centered educational program in a safe and supportive environment. In the grades 9-12, students are challenged to complete a rigorous series of courses to meet AISD’s graduation requirements. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program is available to qualified juniors and seniors, and all grade 11 and 12 students benefit from the IB Standard Level offerings. AISD is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the International Baccalaureate Organization.

Faculty: In the 2022-2023 school year, AISD has 265 total staff including 65 teachers, 36 of whom are U.S. citizens, 4 host-country nationals, and 25 third-country nationals. All teaching faculty maintain a teaching certificate/credential e.g., Diploma of Teaching/registered teacher’s certificate from their countries of origin or equivalent.

Enrollment: For the 2022-2023 school year, enrollment is 459. Of the total, there are 69 host-country nationals, 270 third-country nationals, and 119 U.S. citizens.

Facilities: AISD occupies a 4.5-acre campus in a residential suburb of Dhaka. The campus facility consists of 78 general classrooms, eight science laboratories, two design technology labs, three art studios, two music rooms, two drama rooms, a library/media center, three gymnasiums, a fitness center, a heated pool, a 400-seat theatre, a cafeteria, and office suites. Sports facilities include three playgrounds and an athletic field. AISD maintains a fleet of air-conditioned buses for all student transportation.

Finances: For the 2022-23 school year, 98% of AISD’s income derives from tuition. Annual tuition rates are as follows: PK3: $17,900; PK4: $20,900; K-grade 5: $31,200; grades 6-8: $34,200; and grades 9-12: $37,300. Additional fees are admission processing fee of $350; seat deposit fee for all grades levels of $3,000 (credited against the total fees); registration/capital fee for PK3: $3,000, PK4: $5,000, and K-12: $15,000; and an annual capital fee of $1,000 for K-12.
