CANDIDATE: Todd Philip Haskell
Todd Philip Haskell, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counselor, currently serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of African Affairs at the Department of State, a position he has held since 2015. Mr. Haskell has an excellent ability to see the big picture and to build strong, diverse teams capable of working successfully across agencies on behalf of U.S. interests. He also has broad and deep Africa experience, including strategically managing a $30 million budget across 46 U.S. embassies in Africa. These skills and experience make Mr. Haskell extremely well qualified to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of the Congo.
Previously, Mr. Haskell was Office Director in the Africa Bureau’s Office of Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs (2013-2015), Public Affairs Counselor at U.S. Embassy Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (2010-2013), and Public Affairs Officer at U.S. Consulate General Johannesburg, South Africa (2006-2010). He also served as Public Affairs Officer at U.S. Embassy Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (2003-2006), as Consul in U.S. Embassy Mexico City (2001-2003), and as Consul in Tel Aviv, Israel (1996-2000). Prior to that, Mr. Haskell served as an Intelligence Analyst in the Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research (1993-1995), as Consul in U.S. Consulate General Poznan, Poland (1992-1993), and as a Civilian Observer with the Multinational Force/Observers in Sinai, Egypt (1990-1991). After joining the Foreign Service in 1985, he served as Consul in U.S. Embassy Manila, Philippines (1988-1990) and as General Services Officer and Consul at U.S. Consulate General Karachi, Pakistan (1986-1988).
Mr. Haskell earned a B.S. F.S. from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He has won many Department of State performance awards. His languages are French, Spanish, and Hebrew.
