The International School of Islamabad (ISOI) is a private, coeducational, college-preparatory day school, offering an American curriculum to students of 49 nationalities. Founded in 1965, the school operates on a semester system.
Organization: The school is governed by a nine-member board of directors, seven of whom are elected for two-year terms by members of the International School of Islamabad Society, the sponsor of the school. The remaining two are appointees of the U.S. Ambassador. Membership in the society is automatically conferred on members of the academic staff and on the parents or guardians of children enrolled in the school. The school is incorporated in the United States as a 501(c) (3) organization; it is also registered under the Societies Act XXI of 1960 in Pakistan.
Curriculum: The curriculum for grades NK-5 is self-contained with specialized faculty who teach art, French, Spanish, Urdu, music, technology, host nation, and physical education. Grades 6-8 are departmentalized with teaching teams at each grade level. The curriculum emphasizes the following subjects: English, math, science, foreign languages, art, social studies, music, technology, and physical education. Grades 9-12 provide a rigorous, four-year, college-preparatory program. The school also offers special English Language Learners classes and provides limited support for children with mild to medium learning difficulties. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. ISOI is an International Baccalaureate World School.
Faculty: In the 2022-2023 school year, ISOI has 53 total staff including 49 teachers, 26 of whom are U.S. citizens, 12 host-country nationals, and 11 third-country nationals. The total number of third-country teaching faculty is 11 including Canada, France, Honduras, South Africa, the United Kingdom and Spain. Of the total staff, 10 hold bachelor’s degrees, 43 hold master’s degrees. The entire faculty and staff receive mandatory Child Protection training annually. The school’s total student to faculty ratio is 6:4.
Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, enrollment was 311 (PK-grade 12). Of the total, 48 are U.S. citizens, 62 are Pakistani, and 201 are from other countries around the world.
Facilities: The school is located on 23+ acres on the outskirts of Islamabad. The campus includes elementary school, middle school, and high school quads, a cafeteria, a gymnasium, a well-equipped exercise room, an auditorium, an open-air theater, tennis courts, a climbing wall, a running track, playing fields, a swimming pool, two libraries, and two technology centers. The school has air purification units in all classrooms and indoor exercise areas.
Finances: In the 2022-2023 school year the tuition rates are as follows: PK: $11,500; K1: $15,700; K2-grade 5: $23,200; grades 6-11: $24,200; and grade 12: $25,700. The school also charges a nonrefundable application fee of $175 for NK and $275 for K-grade 12. There is also a one-time development fee of $6,100 for all new students K2-grade 12.
